The Headquarters Counseling Center Archive
Current resources
Current suicide prevention and crisis resources, including 988. This archive operates none of them and provides no crisis service itself.
If you need help now
You may have arrived at this page from an old link — a page that used to say get help now or listed a twenty-four-hour crisis counselling line. That page belonged to an organisation that no longer publishes at this address, and every number it listed is defunct or retired. The number that works is 988.
What this list is
The organisations below are external and independent. This archive operates none of them, has no relationship with any of them, and receives nothing from linking to them. They are listed because they are national bodies that were still operating when this page was written and are the standard references in the field. Verify anything time-sensitive on their own sites.
Deliberately, this is a short list. The page it replaces on the original site was a long directory of local and national contacts with postal addresses, telephone numbers and named individuals, last updated in 2009. A stale directory in this subject area does harm, so nothing from it is reproduced.
Crisis lines
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
- Call or text 988 from anywhere in the US. The national network that the organisation described in this archive helped found and now answers within Kansas.
- Veterans Crisis Line
- For veterans, service members and their families. Reachable by dialling 988 and pressing 1, as well as by text and chat.
- Crisis Text Line
- Text-based crisis support, for people who would rather write than speak.
- HeadQuarters Kansas / Kansas Suicide Prevention HQ
- The Kansas organisation this archive is about, under its current name. It answers 988 for the great majority of Kansas counties and runs statewide prevention programmes. This archive is not affiliated with them.
